Blogs are the up and coming tool for marketing your business. Might be. I've blogged off and on for five years. It was a simple way for me to note places I had visited and to record my thoughts. As I grow my own business, this blog chronicles some of my thoughts on design, business and odd stuff that I read as I travel the web.
Strange name for a wonderful color site. There is nothing like playing with color to really get an understanding of what you are trying to do. Spend some time in the tutorial. This tool is too much fun to not get a good sense of how to fiddle with it.

Problem Solving or easing, speeding, and assisting communication. A mentor of mine used to say that asking the right question goes a long way to solving a problem. Applying that principle has helped me out of many a jam.
I participated in an emergency training exercise several years ago. The scenario had been run several times previously and was based on a real life emergency. A fire chief from a small town was put in charge as a bit of a joke. But when the scenario wrapped up in 15 minutes with the successful extinguishing of the fire rather than the normal three hours of a raging inferno which never was put out, nobody was laughing. As a former CN railroader when a train blocked his quickest way to the fire, he "broke the train" - disconnected the car - and rolled his fire engine through. He successfully extinguished a fire that had in real life caused the evacuation of 50,000 people, $30 million in damages and killed two fire fighters.
He saw a solution where nobody else had. Much discussed in the debrief from this exercise was the "thinking out of the box" that had allowed him to do this. Emergency planners do all that they can to come up with plans for every contingency. Yet we can't prepare for every possible contingency. What is required is a system to allow solutions to emerge.

It's all about content. I read through my morning selection of blogs and found everything from a soliquay on blogging for funeral directors to serious coding to heavy duty news summaries. Keeping the content flowing is why people visit blogs. The front and center recommendation? Be disciplined.

Occassionaly people, both clients and friends, mention that they are concerned about the information that is collected by web servers in the normal course of business. While I attempt to reassure them, this article makes clear the benign content of the information that is passed between computers. What this article doesn't make clear is that once you register on a site the game changes. Now the database has a clear way of associating your provided information with your surfing habits.
Spending some time in a detailed log analysis program gives you a sense of how useful this information can be. Entry, exit, and navigation path within the site are all useful information to increase the usuability of a web site.

Spend some time looking through his information. It always leaves me wondering if the stuff that he gives away is so good (and it is) what is left to sell.

Always interesting. This is one of my daily stops. While I have a number of inspirational emails that drop into my inbox this is one place that I visit that is just inspiring. I read the poetry, say to myself, "This is what I do/" and move on.
